Agathon Henryanto, S.H., ACIArb. is a law graduate from International Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Indonesia majoring in Business Law. Indeed, Agathon's first dream was to be a corporate lawyer. Thus, he explored many aspects of Business Law, including the important skillset for business which is the Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR"). Since then, Agathon has made his journey in ADR and represented UGM and Indonesia in national and international competitions. In 2017, he was awarded as Best Negotiator and Champion of International Disputes Negotiation Competition. Afterwards, Agathon and his team became the first Indonesian representative in International Chambers of Commerce (ICC) International Mediation Competition for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019.
Life Changing Moment in the President's Office
Although he has been focusing his study in the field of Business Law, Agathon could not lie that his interest in politics and government is always remain in his mind. Thus, in 2018, Agathon applied to the Executive Office of the President of Republic of Indonesia (Kantor Staff Presiden/"KSP") and accepted as an intern. Working under the Deputy IV of Political Communication and Dissemination of Information, Agathon had the opportunity to explore many aspects of government's daily duties. From his internship experience, he was triggered to contribute for the country's health services system through the law reform and proper public policy. All of the valuable experiences he gained and thoughts shared by his seniors and supervisors have inspired him to dedicate his life to contribute for Indonesia. Finally, after two years of self contemplation, he finally found his calling to serve his country as a lecturer and researcher in the field of law and public policy, especially regarding the health and medical law.
He believes in the idea that every person's life is valuable and priceless, thus, every person shall has the full rights to adequate health services and facilities. However, Agathon realizes that this is not an easy task to be done by any government in a short period of time. Therefore, Agathon has decided to dedicate his life to improve the quality of health services in Indonesia through his specialization in law, public policy, and ethics. His research focus lies in the field of Health Law & Public Policy, Government & Politics, and Law & Ethics. In order to enrich his understanding on ethics and morality, he also keen to explore Moral & Ethics in the Theological perspective.
Prior to serving as an Assistant Lecturer and Researcher in the Administrative Law Department at the Faculty of Law UGM, he was an Intern in the Executive Office of the President of Republic of Indonesia (Kantor Staff Presiden/"KSP") and a Trainee Associate in Roosdiono & Partners (Member of ZICO Law). He is now an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, United Kingdom, and the founder of Alternative Dispute Resolution Enhancement Society (ATHENS) UGM. While waiting for his master study in 2021 at the Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, focusing in Health and Medical Law, he involves in many research projects which mostly focus on health and medical law, and administrative issues of the government.
